This project reconfigures a cluster of historic townhouses and rear plots along Brussels’ Louizalaan into a balanced ensemble of housing, public services, and collective outdoor space. The intervention combines restoration with carefully considered additions, creating a new programmatic mix within a dense urban block.

Two maisons de maÎtre are stripped of later alterations to recover their original spatial clarity. Public functions — including a neighbourhood police station and liaison office — are discreetly inserted into former carriage accesses and salons, with circulation patterns that clearly separate public and private realms.

At the centre of the block, a minimally paved communal garden provides ecological and social value. A low pavilion marks the transition between civic and residential uses.

Above the historic roofs, a lightweight new structure accommodates compact housing units. These share amenities and open onto a rooftop belvedere. Across the project, interventions remain modest and context-driven, allowing the heritage buildings to frame and support a renewed urban programme.
