The Vynckiersite is an impressive historical industrial site, situated in the outer port of Ghent. The company Parmentier, Van Hoegaerden & Cie founded a cotton factory there in 1857. The site expanded considerably during the last decades of the nineteenth century, as was already the case in 1860 with a Manchesterian spinning mill. The subsequent owners, NV Usines Cotonnières Gand-Zele-Tubize and NV Pipyn, built two more major Manchester buildings in 1910 and 1923. From 1937 onwards, the buildings were gradually taken over by the Vynckier company - later GE Power and Vyncolit NV. The site tells the story of the main players in Ghent's industrial history. Recently the site was purchased by REVIVE and ABC ENGINES who will redevelop the site.

The aim of the historical study is to set out a framework for the reconversion study. In parallel, a stability study, a building physics study and an energy audit will take place. In the reconversion study the synthesis is made in function of possible future programmes. For the heritage buildings, organisational principles, fire safety schemes and insulation strategies are developed on the basis of various scenarios.
